The Michael Phelps Way to Becoming a Good Copywriter
Michael Phelps dominated the swimming events in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and set a record for the most number of gold won in an Olympic Games, beating Mark Spitz’s 7 gold medals by one.
While Michael maybe naturally gifted for his Olympic prowess, he has attained certain attributes through his own will and determination which can be used and followed by any copywriter who wants to perfect his craft.

Michael Phelps rarely misses a practice
- So should you. The old saying that practice makes perfect always rings true in any profession. Perhaps more so in writing. While you can easily learn the basics of good writing, practice helps you graduate into a consistently effective copywriter.
Michael Phelps works hard in the pool
- You may already be a good writer, but should you content yourself with the ability you possess right now? Remember that there is always a room for improvement no matter how great a writer you already are. Work twice as hard as the competition so you can emerge as the champion.
Michael Phelps makes good use of his 80-in. wingspan and size-14 feet to propel himself in the water
- Make good use of the talent and tools you’ve been given. You already have a brain, what you need is to have a well-stocked mind. Read more. Observe more. Practice more. Learn more. A writer’s most important tool of the trade is not his pen or computer, but his brain. Don’t let it stagnate. Make good use of it.
Michael Phelps hates waking up very early
- He actually stays a bit longer in bed compared to his fellow athletes. If his alarm clock goes on, he would silent it off and go back in bed. While this maybe misconstrued as laziness, Phelps just knows how to reward himself with a little relaxation. You should follow his example. After all your efforts of practicing and improving your skills, some R and R will help your mind and body recuperate and refresh. A well-rested mind can best cope with any writing challenges and projects.

I love the analogy you presented here! I agree with most of your ideas but I want to highlight the importance of always striving to improve one’s craft.
keep sharing your ideas to us okay?
Interesting article about Phelps and his sleeping habit hehehe. I love taking a little siesta and based on a discovery channel it is actually good for you healthwise. Power naps and longer sleep sessions is definitely the best way to recuperate after a long arduous week.
Thanks for dropping by Empty Streets too. I really love your site and hopefully i get to be as good a writer as you.
Phelps is really a one of a kind athlete. Wow, so those are the lessons you learned from him? Cool! Hope it helps you improve your craft.
I really believe that Phelps will win more Olympic golds in the future. He’s still young. He still has many years in his career.

Indeed Michael Phelps is a superb swimmer! It was amazing that the American flag was waved 8 times in a row for the golds that he has won. Alongside with the American flag were other flags from different countries . Perhaps Phelps would be interested in Vexillology in the future.
Cheers.

Nice analogy here. However, let us not forget that he was once diagnosed with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and swimming was his outlet which became his passion.
In relation of copywriting, I think one must also be able to fight his weakness and overpower it. If one thinks he cannot do it, then he cannot do it.
Just sharing my thoughts.

Oh good. Michael Phelps and I have one thing in common: we both like to sleep a bit longer. Haha!:D
Seriously, this was an excellent post. More power to all your writing projects, including this blog.
