Imagine or pretend, whichever term you prefer, that you have just heard of this phenomenon called blogging. You’ve heard that it can also be a source of income, if not the main source at least an additional one. Now, do you think you will pay someone to teach you how to blog?
There are a number of so-called blogging gurus who conduct seminars and charge their participants, the highest amount I’ve heard of was P10,000 (about USD 200).
I don’t think that you need to pay any amount just to learn how to blog. The internet is laden with info about blogging, both basics and advanced, and there are a lot of professional bloggers who are willing to share their stories to all the newbies.
So why pay if you can learn for free? Somebody told me that it shortens the learning curve. I don’t believe that, if anything else, you just wasted the chance of the proper way of learning how to blog.
Do you want to know how to start blogging? There’s only one solution to that: START BLOGGING. Get your feet wet. Start a blog. There are lots of free blog hosting out there, Blogger and Wordpress.com are the first two that come to my mind. If you are frightened of the intricacies of getting your own domain and of self-hosting your blog, you can always start a blog with the free ones.

There are people who think they can just start a blog and money will just come to them. Like it’s a passive source of income. Blogging is not a passive source of income because you have to continuously invest time and effort on your blog. The only passive income that I can think of are royalties that book authors and songwriters receive. Now those are truly passive because these people can just sit back and relax while they earn through their royalties.

There is a lot of information online for just about any subject that you could imagine, but some people would rather pay for information, even if it is freely available, than learn how to find it on their own. Though, I think it’s important for people to realize that they do not have to pay to start blogging if they do not want to.
Personally, there are plenty of things that I pay for that I could do/figure out on my own… it’s all in how you value your time.
Making money with a blog is different than it was a few years ago, but it’s still pretty easy — once you know what you’re doing. However, like you said — people have high expectations about blogging, and especially for the ‘newbie’, things do not generally happen overnight, or without an ongoing investment.
In terms of free blogging platforms, though — I recommend blogger.com. I see Wordpress.com blogs getting shut down all the time for terms of service violations (No SEO blogs, affiliate marketing, etc. allowed) — blogger.com is much more internet-business friendly in this regard.

Thanks for the insights especially on Wordpress.com not accepting SEO blogs. I guess they are more on personal blogs.

thanks for you man
The resources for blogging are overwhelming and without end. I guess a new blogger might find it intimidating to try and research. There are pros and cons to paid learning. You miss out on all the discovery, you learn what the teachers wants you to know.
On the other hand, it is faster learning, you don’t have to make your own mistakes, etc.
My personality is such that I like to make my own mistakes. Sometimes even if it didn’t work for you it might work for me. I’m one of those!

This is a very informative and well written post. You can also earn passive income from articles you’ve written for writing sites, like helium, triond, associated content, to name a few. This income comes from people reading your already posted articles. You can earn daily from the “views” you get and watch your cents pile up. But of course before you start enjoying these passive earnings, you have to built your portfolio first.
I have learned too through self exposure. I didn’t even know what an HTML was before, but now, I know at least, where to paste it. ..lol.. . Experience is the best teacher.
Happy blogging and happy holidays.

PinoyCopywriter´s last blog post..Pay to Learn How to Blog?
I learned the ins and outs blogging (and earning from it) by starting a blog and using the internet to find useful information that helped me learn fast. It only took three months after I started a blog for money to start trickling in. Now I have a good monthly income from my blogs. I have 10 blogs now, I am on the process of building two more blogs that are self-hosted. It was nine months ago since I wrote the very first blog post in my first blog. I have a day job mind you, a very demanding one but I still manage to write for my blogs and for other people’s blogs at night.
The best way to learn how to blog is by starting a blog and diving in and not by going to workshops and lessons.
