Keyword Density for A 300-Word Copy

by Mj Ces

What’s the ideal keyword density for a 300-word article?

Is it 2% or more than that?

I say don’t worry about the percentage and just do the following and your copy will work just fine:

  • Put your main keyword in your title. While it is not definite whether spiders start scanning a page from top to bottom or vice versa, it is the title that states what your article is all about. It is just natural to put your main keyword there.
  • If you structure your article into three parts (introduction, body, conclusion), put your keyword once in the first paragraph, twice or thrice if possible in the body, and once in the last paragraph.
  • Sometimes if you follow the keyword density percentage, your copy may look spammy or sound too unnatural. Although a good copywriter can effectively incorporate such a number of keywords into the copy, there will always be a limit to the amount of creativity that he can use.
  • Know your keywords and build your article around it. Never forget to create a balance between the number of keywords and the general readability (by humans) of your article.

These are useful tips, where did you learn so many things. I will have to utilize this when I’ll prepare for a new post in my random thoughts. You write very well and had successfully outlined the significant information in a shot post.

I know you’re a Filipino, I was wondering if you can post a topic on vexillology and simultaneously display our Philippine flag in your post …Just like saying, you’re proud to be a Filipino. ( I will do that soon…lol)

Happy blogging and all the best…

(Whew,ang hirap noon ha…lol) That was tough. Cheers!

Thanks for the this. I’m still trying to learn my way through SEO. Some of my posts made it through some top searches by accident. But true SEO efforts come from good planning. I would keep these points in mind.

@Jena
I’ll keep your topic suggestion in mind. :)

@Gem
I know what you mean with some of your posts reaching the top searches. A few months before, I wrote a post about my Asus Eee PC on my other more personal blog. Later, I was surprised to find that that post was in the first page of a Google search for the keyphrase “asus eee pc advanced desktop mode”. But it had since gone down.

hi pinoycopywriter,

nice post. writing for the serps and at the same time for users is difficult. i tend to over deliver keywords in an article most of the time and i’m having difficulty putting some balance like what you suggested.

i have to keep practicing though if i wanted to rank well with the serps.

thanks for this.

indeed, keyword density is something to watch out in optimizing a post, or a single webpage. overdoing it may be considered a spam by the search engines.

hi. found your site through atenean and i find your topics pretty amazing! keyword density is indeed something to watch for in SEO. The tips you shared are fantastic! one quick tip: if the articles contain subheadings, try to insert the keyword there too as SEs also give weight to keywords placed in header tags.

Added your link in my TECH Blogs section. I enjoyed reading your entries very much. Keep blogging and sharing tips ^_^
