Disclaimer: This post is for people who are familiar with using an article spinner. And also, on a professional note, I do not use any article spinner whenever I rewrite an article for a client.
Even though I’m a freelance writer, I will not be bashing all those article spinning software. What I will talk about is why many people still end up with rubbish spun articles even after using these tools.
The answer is simple: They only put variations on each word. In other words, they just find the synonyms for each word and put these within the spin tags.
Let us take a look at a sample sentence with variations for some of the words.
Original version: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
With spin tags: The {quick|alert|fast|agile|speedy|energetic} {brown|sepia|tan|tawny} fox {jumps|bounces|leaps|hops|hurdles} {over|above|on top of|beyond} the {lazy|apathetic|lethargic|languid|tired|unenergetic} {dog|man’s best friend|doggy}.
Possible spun version: The alert tawny fox hops beyond the apathetic doggy.
Does the possible spun version sound right? Grammatically there’s nothing wrong with it, but the thought or the idea of the sentence is lost. The better ways to spin an article are sentence by sentence or paragraph by paragraph. By doing this, the sense of the article will not be lost in the translation, er… variation.
Of course what I am trying to point out here is the effective way to spin an article with the goal of creating quality spun articles. But I think there are many people who are just after the number of spun articles as long as these cannot be considered duplicate content by Google.
In that case, they are rubbish.

That’s what makes spinning a bad topic to discuss online, because they already have a negative impression upon hearing such term. Personally, I don’t have anything against these spinning software since I also prefer to rewrite articles manually. I believe that an article should be readable and useful still to readers even if you rewrite it a lot of times.
